Missed beyond Measure
Sonja J. Caswell, committed wife of Garry Caswell, loyal sister of Larry Heymans, devoted mother of Kathleen and Ronny Van Lierde, passed away on March 14, 2024, after bravely facing a long difficult battle with cancer. Also survived by sons Gordon (Sheena) Caswell and Steven (Tara) Caswell.
She now joins her son Timothy D.R. Tinney and parents (Alfons Heymans and Rosella Still), in eternal peace. She was a fiercely proud grandmother and great grandmother.
Born on April 24, 1952, in Raymond, Alberta; Sonja's journey was one of boundless love, hard work and service to others. From her roots in Canada to her life in Belgium (and then back to Canada), Sonja loved life.
Sonja was known for her tireless volunteer work and fundraising efforts for the local Granum library and Claresholm senior's center. She poured her heart into caring for others, even operating her own small business where she offered in-home foot care services for individuals who were no longer able to.
Beyond her unwavering dedication to others, Sonja found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was needle crafting, sewing, tending to her garden, or engaging in lively card games, she approached every hobby with boundless enthusiasm and a sense of pride.
But above all, Sonja treasured moments spent with her cherished family and friends. Her love knew no bounds.
Though Sonja's physical presence may be gone, her spirit lives on in the memories we hold dear. Let’s remember her unwavering strength, and endless capacity for love. We find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
As we bid farewell to Sonja, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a heart that touched so many others. Rest easy, dear mom, wife, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. You will forever remain in our hearts.
A celebration of life will follow later this spring in Lethbridge, Alberta. Following her wishes, a traditional funeral will not be held.
