Iris LaRee (Nilsson) Mossey, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at age 98 years, in the Chinook Regional Hospital.

Iris will be deeply missed by her devoted children: LaRee Herget (Robert); Sharon Ehlert (Jim); and Rob (Shannon Fooks). Iris married Gordon Robert Mossey on December 6, 1947. In 1955, he passed away. She was also predeceased by her parents, Bert and Marriette Nilsson, of Raymond Alberta, and four brothers, Robert, Ross, Keith, and Jack and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Frank, of Calgary, Alberta. They shared a sisterly bond and fond memories.

Iris leaves behind three children, seventeen grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love and family that will endure for generations. In 1947, She earned her Nursing degree and from then on, her life was marked by her unwavering dedication to caring for others. She worked as a nurse in clinical, hospital, administration, and public health settings. She always advocated for her profession. The Nurse of the Year in Alberta in 1971 was awarded to her. She devoted herself to providing comfort and compassion to her family and those around her. She left an indelible impact on all who crossed her path. Beyond her professional pursuits, Iris found joy in adding to her family history, travelling world-wide and serving in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She completed two full-time family history missions. Her excellent sewing, crochet, and craft skills brought warmth and beauty to those she loved. She always had a project on-the-go and would stay up all night perfecting it whether it be building a Christmas toy, adding lace to a wedding dress, packing for a summer camping trip, collating pedigree charts, for her extended family or filling the piñata treat bags for her annual Nanapalooza.

A woman of strength, independence, kindness, and boundless love, Iris will be deeply missed by all who knew her. As a widow, she was determined to give her children a happy childhood filled with traditions, knowledge, encouragement, and unconditional love. With the help of the Nilsson and Mossey families, she succeeded. Her children and posterity will be eternally grateful to her and for her.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to her home care workers and staff at Chinook Regional Hospital.
